Brikens and Sotheby's International Realty: the first crypto-payment alliance in Mexico

Brikens is the bridge between crypto wealth and luxury real estate in Mexico. The buyer pays with cryptocurrency; Brikens deposits the seller at any bank, in the currency they prefer, with closing before a notary — even if the seller doesn't accept crypto.

The announcement

Sotheby's International Realty (Mexico) is listing its property catalog on the Brikens platform, opening the first formal channel in Mexico for buyers with crypto wealth to acquire luxury properties, without Sotheby's operating crypto directly.

Why it matters

The luxury real estate market in Mexico sees international buyers with growing crypto wealth. Until now, those deals fell apart at the last step: the bank won't process funds with a crypto origin, the seller needs to receive their payment, and the notary requires demonstrable source of funds. It wasn't a buyer backing out — it was a buyer with no way to pay.

With this alliance, Sotheby's International Realty can offer its buyers a verified path, before a notary public, to complete the transaction, without giving up commission or control of the process.

How it works

  1. The buyer chooses a property from Sotheby's catalog on Brikens.
  2. Brikens verifies the buyer's identity and source of funds.
  3. The exchange rate is agreed upfront.
  4. Brikens settles the seller with a bank deposit in their preferred currency.
  5. The deed is signed before a notary public, like any other sale.

What each side gets

  • Buyer: uses their crypto wealth without forcing the seller to "understand crypto."
  • Seller / Sotheby's agent: receives a bank deposit, in the currency they choose, without touching crypto.
  • Notary: handles a normal sale, with documented source of funds.
